• scratched lens

  got my lens lubricated and cleaned last year. Was cleaning front element and happen to notice a scratch inside the rear element. Johnstone denied. Took it in for inspection to see if it was a scratch which they say was a hair. And tried to hit me for a £170 bill to clean it. After closer inspection from a technician at my college the mark was identified as a scratch it was TRANSPARENT. Had to phone up the dealer I bought the lens from to get to the bottom of the scratch where it originated from and it was johnstone's that had scratched, odds are the technician accidentally dropped a screw driver on the rear element. Was told the technician who scratched it would phone me up still waiting, if you rely on making a living from your gear don't take it to johnstone's

• Excessive charge

  I took my digital camera there as it was failing to start. Their estimate was £60 as it needed new parts. I then claimed it through Barclaycard who asked me to send it to their selected repairer who returned it within a week advising that no parts were needed, only a clean of internal electrical contacts.

• Canon 5D Sensor Clean

  I took my camera in to get the sensor properly cleaned. I expected to have to wait a couple of days. The assistant I spoke to took my camera and then said 'come back in 45 mins' - which I did and the whole camera, sensor was spotless. Fast and efficient service.

  I have used this company on several occasions and have always found them to be polite and efficient which is why I was dissapointed to see a poor review. I have no hestitation in recomending them, they also do sensor cleans while you wait...

• AJ Johnstone never again!!!

  I have used AJ twise now the first time they showed nothing but lack of knowledge were slow in dealing with my repair and when I finaly (1 and a half months later) recieved my camera (canon xm1) back it was still in the same state as before the second time they got it right but this was after numerous phone callsto haste them along. A year later I use them again this time i need a wee bit of dust out of my lens, I need it done in a hurry cos' my camera is my one tool in my line of work. I sress this to them and Im told 4 - 5 days if no parts are needed. Well lonf story short, it took 3 weeks for them to repair* it, in this time they showed no customer service/care skill what so ever, total incompetence in every field, they fobbed me of with lies to get me off their case evey time I called. Their fav being "we're waiting on a part still" - er no spare part needed guys! and "oh the technition has to clean the ccd unit, its a long process" - erm the ccd unit is a sealed unit, its un heard of to clean them! *I recieve it bqck and the dusts still in there. Ignerent, un helpful and incomentent. Cowboys
